Project - Redevelopment of Corporate Website
The company website had an 1980’s 8-bit look and was purely focused on acquiring re-sellers. Customers complained that they could not show end-customers our products on our website as they were missing.Goals - Improve customer and end-customer experiences by:
- ensuring that the website was properly branded (logo, coloring, and fonts)
- change focus to advertise products
- introduce a dealer login area where customers can source sensitive data
In the first phase I worked with a sales rep to convince Executive Management to create a more appropriate presence online. I performed the first website update, replacing it with a very simple properly branded landing page. While this helped, it became obvious that the company needed to continue to improve upon the website.
I broke the second update into two phases; with the first phase focusing on the overall layout and content, and the second on the graphics and provisioning of documents. I worked to ensure that the content was uniform across all company documents. The visual elements were re-developed by a graphic artist. A "Dealer Login" section was introduced, which enabled our customers to log in and download software updates, technical drawings, and product information. We ensured that the dealer login area was secured, providing passwords of sufficient strength (but that could be remembered) to the customer base, and ensuring that we kept the site well patched and updated.
The original Domain name was not harmonized with the name of the company, so I secured new, more fitting Domain names. As well, the registrant had claimed ownership of the domains, which I had to reverse.
Both phases were viewed as being highly successful by both the Executive Management team and customer base, and was considered a good temporary stop-gap until full redevelopment could be afforded by a more seasoned development company years later.
